Portchester Castle
Folder: Castles, fortifications and military installations.
The Roman origins of this fortification, built to bolster the defences of Portsmouth Harbour, are evident from the square layout of the curtain walls and the semicircular bastions. The castle developed over the Middle Ages and was still in active use in the Napoleonic period.
