This I was told, is a repro Bentley on a Rolls chassis! An online registration number check shows this is a 1936 black and green tourer - make unknown. Clearly the style is for an older model, so the repro suggestion seems likely.
This classy looking car came along just as I was about to put my camera away to do my shopping in Lidl's. Fading out the background makes its lines stand out from its surroundings.
Seen again in March 2014 at Seaford - perhaps - www.ipernity.com/doc/364457/31224559
Hillman Super Minx estate car - Exceat - 20.12.201…
Looks like a case of 'one careful owner'! It's great to see a well-cared-for family car just being used for daily runs and not in some rally or other event..
Information about this car is currently (Feb 2014) available at www.challenger-owners-club.co.uk/forsale.htm - scroll down several cars - it is not the top red one. The entry is now for information only - the sale has taken place.
Caught just pulling off the Newhaven Swing Bridge, where there are lots of lights and bollards to get in the way, hence the partial shot and the rear end view.
21.10.2014 A couple of days ago I caught the same car at exactly the same spot! www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/35576273
Another exotic car, even more so with foreign plates & lhd, passing by, as I wait for my bus back from Lidl's, Newhaven!
March 2022 - I am fairly sure that I saw the same car making the same turn very recently, but it was red!
I have identified this elegant car from comparison with others on the 'net. I am quite happy to be corrected. The date is from using a reg.no.checker. The badge is not from this car, but is, I think, of the type that is on its bonnet.
I saw this a few days ago when I was in a rush to get somewhere, but it was gone when I came back the same way later. So I was pleased to see it more or less in the same spot - near the White Lion Hotel - today.
This car had a plate, on the back, explaining its origins. As it was starting to rain, I didn't stop to read it, but someone said it was related to the 2CV series of Citroens.
Muriel Sutters with Percy's former car at his fune…
Muriel is my late mother. The car is a 19 litre Mercedes Maybach tourer, which Percy Pritchard owned in earlier years and which formed part of his funeral cortege. The noisy aero-engined car needed special permission from the Hereford Cathedral authorities before it could enter the cathedral precincts.
