The Isle of Wight is in a direct line of sight from Seaford. The only promontory before the island, after Castle Hill, Newhaven, is Selsey Bill, which is not high enough to be seen from sea-level. So the faint smudge on the horizon must be the Isle of Wight - a distance of about 55 miles.

Apart from straightening the horizons and cropping each image to the same size, I have not adjusted the contrast or colouring. The changes in the light levels are down to the camera's automatic exposure calculations. The first image, at the top left is darker overall, because the meter included the bright Sun in its calculations
