Lovely bay window - typical of a port area - shame about the shed on the roof. I bet if you tried to remove the 'shed' now and return the building to its original, more elegant, state, you would get a howl of disapproval from the Conservation Officer!

If the accommodation in HMS Alliance looks cramped and claustrophobic, you should visit HMS Ocelot! Even so, I imagine that the spaces in earlier subs was even tighter.

Red bus - green bus - Acton Depot - 2.11.2008
|
|
Acton Depot houses the London Transport Museum's artifacts that are not on display in central London. Each year they have one or two open days, during which the public can wander round, see one-off displays, talk to staff, ride on buses and see the huge range of items that have been conserved by the Museum.

Sir Joseph Paxton, Head Gardener at Chatsworth House, was the designer of the Crystal Palace, originally in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851, and later at the site in South London now known as Crystal Palace. He designed and engineered many more innovative glass buildings in the UK and France. He was a Director of the Midland Railway. He was Liberal Member of Parliament for Coventry from 1854 until his death in 1865. His bust is located south of the National Sports Centre in the middle of the park.

Statue of Gladstone The Strand London

This regrettably low definition image is an extract from a wider shot and shows the memorial to the reforming Liberal Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Victorian era. Seen as a champion of the poor and the working classes, his statue here has a weary looking young couple with their luggage resting against its base.
