Thanks, Annemarie. This was taken with a telephoto lens from over a mile away. That is why the curve looks too sharp.

Was ist das denn für eine Schiene neben dem Gleis? Eine Stromschiene?

Ein schöner Gleisbogen mit den Häusern im Hintergrund! Offensichtlich ist das Gleis mal verschoben worden, oder? Der seitliche Abstand zum Bahnsteig scheint mir ziemlich groß zu sein.

The third rail is a conductor rail. Most of the railways to the south of London have this type of electrical supply. This line used to be double-tracked. When the freight facilities at the end of the line, at Seaford, were removed the second track was removed. There is one passenger train every 30 minutes in both directions.
