At that spot in October 2013 a fourteen year old boy, playing with friends as sunset approached, fell into the sea as a storm swept in. He was never seen again, despite many hours searching by Newhaven lifeboat in atrocious conditions, in the dark. Their vessel was damaged by crashing into the breakwater. As you say - the power of nature.

With this sort of shot I use the 'continuous' setting and fire off a rapid volley as the wave heads in.
I tried to get a fair amount of the choppy sea in the foreground, as the incoming and rebounding waves fight each other. You can see from the surfing shot, how much the breakwater protects the area within it, when the prevailing wind is coming from the south west, straight up the English Channel, or La Manche as our neighbours call it.
