This is supposedly the first element of a larger sculpture, with a fifteen foot image of the great engineer made out of bullhead rail being the main feature. I think that there is a funding issue holding up that part. Brunel built the first tunnel under the Thames and the Brunel Museum is near this sculpture, which stands close to the entrance to the Rotherhithe (road) Tunnel. That one he didn't build.
I don't know where the 'hot carved plates' fit into this work. I picked this up from a local news item.
