The curved weatherboarding on the far left is striking, although I suppose that it wouldn't have presented a great challenge to carpenters trained in boat building.

You're probably right. There are a number of buildings in Rye with rounded parts, most are tile hung, but I seem to remember at least one other timber clad one - in black I think.

While the building on the right may have been white all along, I suspect that the wooden boards on the left may have been black, like neighbouring weatherboarded warehouses.
