William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, preached his first open-air sermon outside an earlier pub on this site in 1865.
This one was built in 1894 and gained notoriety on April 9th 1966 when Ronnie Kray, one of the infamous Kray Twins, shot dead his gangland rival George Cornell as he sat enjoying a drink.
