.. some buildings have been re-purposed
.. others not so fortunate
.. the Value of Preserving History
.. means different things to each of us
.. my goal is to find that which has been re-purposed; re-used
.. not tossed aside like it would take too much to fix
.. and keep history for the future generations in North Carolina

.. partial
collapse of the roof -
over the loading docks -
Oneida Cotton Mills -
over 100 yrs old -
the roof had a leak -
9 inches of snow didn't help -
so, the transformation of this old building -
into apartments -
11 have been lost -
still over 100 will be available -
when completed -
it is a positive sign when old buildings are re-purposed -
old, hand crafted bricks -
in a pile -
hopefully some will be salvaged -
^^ inactive for at least 15 years ^^

Stone ..
in an Art Deco skyscraper downtown -
only nine stories -
designed by architect Charles Conrad Hartmann -
winning bid .. $ 157,120.00 -
construction began Sept. 1928 -
opened to the public Nov. 1929 -
local Fire Dept. [ at that time ] -
didn't have ladders that would reach higher than 2 stories -
so, the building was made of stone -
only wood used was inner doors -

Soda Shop ..
this Soda Shop is online -
for history that goes back before most of us were born -
early 1900s -
changed location -
that building burned and as it was being fixed -
a support beam fell [ during the night ] when nobody was there -
the entire structure had to be razed -
the Soda Shop rebuilt across the Court Square -
it is owned by the same fellow who owns the re-furbished cinema -
small town living -
a photo I found has the Dad of a friend of mine -
at the counter .. he was a Soda Jerk !
this is a smaller World than we think -

Dentzel Carousel Menagerie ..
Pam's favorite and the one she rode numerous times is the Dappled Grey [ that I put her name on ] just above Pam's note -
.
Visiting the Carousel, Pam tapped into her Inner-Child who rode and rode and rode -
Except when she took a break for photos or more ride tickets -
At one point, the gentleman who was running the Carousel told her she didn't need any more tickets -
"Ride as many times as you wish.."
And Pam did -
The highlight of this visit ?
That I can't say -
But it certainly was close to the top !
- 1 note by Pam - 1 note showing where pam J is -
On the Dappled Grey, her name has been added .. just as when I sent her a mouse-pad with this photo and her name on the banner of red ..
