'Blood Swept Lands And Seas of Red' Poppy from the installation to commemorate the 100 years since World War 1

'Blood Swept Lands And Seas of Red' Poppy from the installation to commemorate the 100 years since World War 1
My Poppy from the Tower Of London "Blood Swept Lands And Seas of Red" installation to commemorate the 100 years since World War I has just arrived.

I didnt know it was it.. and I opened the box and was hit with a huge emotional wave. I just stood and cried. It still has earth on from the Tower of London (that in itself is so emotive... my Home.. My England that I miss so much. I used to walk past the Tower daily when I did my apprentiship). The impact of finally seeing this Poppy ... one of 888,246 that represents someone who died in World War I was an enormous emotional hit.

I have now assembled the Poppy.. it means so very very much to me. I was brought up to Honour the Poppies and ALL they represented. This is a special thing for me.

What a nice commemorative. A "War to End All Wars" almost forgotten.

Thankyou Dick..

Not forgotten in UK and Europe.

The USA had one year... UK and Europe had 4.. and lost a generation of men.. nearly 2 generations....

You are so lucky to have this. I would have loved one in memory of my great grandfather who died fighting the war. Sadly we didn't manage to get one :-(

Europeans are better at remembering the sacrifices that were made in the great wars than we are here.

Had I still been in England nothing would have stopped me going.

As to the Poppy... the wall of emotion that came out of the box when I opened it was overwhelming. Still is in many ways.

I believe some objects absorb emotions... and this has certainly some of the emotion generated by the visit of nearly 5,000,000 people..... and from it being a part of something special in a place so steeped in history.

Astonishing.
