Arlington House is the last and largest of the Rowton Houses to be built and is the only one to remain in use as a hostel. Irish men who came to London to work on the canal and the railroad lived here after it opened in 1905. George Orwell wrote about the Rowton Houses in "Down and Out in London and Paris" and Jack London in "People of the Abyss".
