B&W / Monochrome

The original photo was taken on January 15, 2016 – the last real winter day in Baden-Baden that I can remember. While I'm working here, it's 33°C outside. Seven of these cast-iron candelabras are standing in front of the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden. They are gas-powered and manually switched on in the evening and off again early in the morning. I haven't been able to determine their actual age yet, but they are shown on postcards from 1899. Gas lighting was introduced in Baden-Baden in 1846. A few years ago, one of these candelabras was destroyed in an accident. The reconstruction cost €200,000.

Wir kennen diesen Namen als Titel eines volkstümlichen Lieds. Es stammt aus dem Ostpreußen des 17. Jahrhunderts und besingt in 17 Strophen Anna Neander, die Tochter des Tharauer Pfarrers. Ihr Denkmal befindet sich in Klaipėda im Zentrum der Altstadt auf dem Theaterplatz. (vor 1945 : Memel / Ostpreußen)
