Don Camillo & Peppone a Brescello 01

Don Camillo & Peppone a Brescello 01
Don Camillo and Peppone are the main characters of many stories and several novels by the Italian writer Giovannino Guareschi and some of the resulting feature films from the 1950s.

They sketch rural Italy shortly after the Second World War. The plots show in an equally humorous and dramatic way the contemporary problems of ordinary people, the gap between the old traditions and the social optimism and the political rivalry in the climate of the beginning of the Cold War.

The main characters - the Catholic priest Don Camillo and the communist mayor Peppone - are seemingly irreconcilable.
And yet, in the course of the actions, situations repeatedly arise in which they join hands to overcome small or large challenges.

For me personally, these film adaptations of Giovannino Guareschi's stories have almost cult status - I have known them since my childhood.
When black and white television became fashionable.

The town of Brescello in the Emillia Romagna region, virtually on the banks of the Po River, is the location for all of these films.

The films by Don Camillo and Peppone also have cult status for this place and its residents.
Which is lovingly and successfully marketed.
