Bird of Sorrow
Twelve years ago, on April 10, 2010, in the morning around 9 a.m. my mother called: "Come! Come here and listen what they are saying!
The plane with our president has crashed near Smoleńsk!"
I rushed into her room. I stood there, I looked at the TV screen and listened. I was shocked. I was devastated.
Then I heard: "No survivors". 96 victims.
I could not even process that.
I felt dumb and numb. I went into denial.
Eventually I started crying. I cried for two days.
On the third day I made this creation.

We actually know, Karl.
It was Russian retaliation for what President Lech Kaczyński had done in 2008 for Georgia when Russians had invaded this country.

There is no doubt about it anymore.
We know that and we know how it was done because physical and circumstantial evidence is overwhelming (in spite of the fact that Russians still keep the remains of the plane hostage).
So we know what, when, how, why and who.
But for many years this truth about "the crash" was politically unwanted.
Is it going to change now? That I don't know.

Oh yes you remind me of a tragedy - But - and I admit it sheepishly, I almost forgot - it's sad but true!
Time passes and new atrocities come to the fore - overriding old ones.
That's why it's always good to be reminded.
