Halo (Singular der Halo; Plural Halos oder Halonen) oder Lichthof bzw. Hof ist ein Sammelbegriff für Lichteffekte der atmosphärischen Optik, die durch Reflexion und Brechung von Licht an Eiskristallen entstehen.
Je nach Größe und Orientierung der Eiskristalle sowie dem Winkel, unter dem Licht auf die Kristalle trifft, entstehen an verschiedenen Stellen des Himmels teils weißliche, teils farbige Kreise, Bögen, Säulen oder Lichtflecken. Quelle: Wiki(D)

I once saw a double halo together with a brockenspekter (unsure of German spelling and don't know the name on English) at the same time. Sadly I didn't go out with a camera that day! It was on the summit of Glydr Fach (Snowdonia, Wales) in Decedmber 1978. There was a rolling nd golden /with the setting sun) sea of cloud / fog under us as well!
