Odd one out
On the 15th February 1971 Britain and Ireland decimalised from £sd currency. It was a long time coming as it was first discussed in Parliament in 1824 !
Unfortunately this made the very attractive "thrupenny bit” obsolete; you can see echoes of it in the shapes of the decimal 20P and 50P coins.

MaggsMep club has replied to Edna Edenkoben clubI used to be very good at maths until aged 13 I had to change schools when we moved and they were using a different syllabus for maths; I was ahead in some areas and behind in others. My new maths teacher refused to help … I lost heart and interest … which is a shame as my grandson is quite literally genius at maths, studying it at Uni … and I can’t understand a word :-(( Percy Chick, never forget his name …
Edna Edenkoben club has replied to MaggsMep clubI also blame my loss of interest on my math teacher in high school...I do remember his name as well, but I don't even want to mention it here!!
What a shame, Maggie, as you would have been talented in maths (as for me, I'm not so sure about that!!), but at least your grandson is going to continue the line of talented math folks in your family :-)
Only joking.........honestly! This is a superb close up shot with perfect focus and depth of field. The black background makes the coins stand out beautifully!

Very nice composition, including a couple of oldies!
On a serious note, I believe that the non-round shapes were to help 'blind' people tell the coins apart. But maybe 20 sides on a 20 pence, 50 sides on a 50 pence might have had some merit...
Best Wishes, a nice week ahead, and stay safe!!
