In pride of place this well over 70 year old bookcase was made of old-style, oak school desks by my father as he hated to see all of that beautiful wood going to waste. It’s much loved in the family and has been passed around to several members depending on who needs it most! Underneath the router is the box for storing old records the back of which has a small hole in - ever a very humourous man he deliberately chose a piece with the hole for the ink well !!!

I am the current custodian and always feel part of my father is with me.

Ronald Stachowiak, J. Gafarot, Fred Fouarge, Peter_Private_Box and 19 other people have particularly liked this photo

I see a Bill Bryson book, Andy and I were using his short stories to improve my English… oh, how I miss reading with him…
Books are for me the most important part in the house, sometimes I think I have to make room as I don’t want to add libraries, but it is a hard choice…
Your father was very handy ! Sure it will go on being appreciated for generations.

I still miss Andy's' rhetoric too Isabel. He often had a story or two to tell, but for me, that was always on-line. ~ H

Wow, what a wonderful job he made of the wood. Great recycling, like so many used to do.
I've also got many Bill Bryson books :-)

Your Dad seems to have been a real craftsman...........this is a really gorgeous bookcase and more importantly.........a proper family piece, which can continue being passed on to future generations of family members!

The colour of the wood is rally lovely..........I'd be happy to have that in my home! A super photo and story Maggie!

Ps: I like your lamp and that beautiful vintage fire extinguisher!

Cheers Gaffer! Dad could turn his hand to almost anything, so nice that you like it.

The old fire extinguisher is another sort of memorial piece, this one to my dearly loved and much missed hubby (Keith) who was a retained firefighter.

Ha, ha...........I'm the complete opposite of your Dad. I'm absolutely rubbish at DIY.......in fact, I'm so bad that my wife banned me from even attempting stuff :-)))

The fire extinguisher is a fine thing to remember your late husband by Maggie. He must have been a good bloke with that name :-)
