J'ai choisi la boussole, autant pour son aspect utilitaire que pour les expressions qui lui sont accrochées : garder le nord, perdre la boussole...

Trouver le nord, n'est pas une évidence, comme montre cette carte de 1916 : quel cap choisir...?

I chose the compass, as much for its utilitarian aspect as for the expressions attached to it: keeping north, losing the compass .

tu as raison...
mais... quand les batteries sont vides, quand l'énergie manque, quand les mises à jours ne sont pas faites... c'est comme un smartphone sans réseau : SatNav ne sert plus à rien
carte et compas n'ont besoin que des yeux ...

Well put together. When it comes to maps, the hardest thing for me to do was get them folded back properly. Even with GPS in the car we still carry maps!

Oui, c'est le départ obligé pour voyager pas cher mais ça rallonge le temps de transport (métro avec 1 changement + train + car + enregistrement : 3 h minimum - avion : 2 h)

A propos de "léger détour" j'ai eu mieux : Paris/Roissy > Lima en 1981, première escale et changement d'avion à... Amsterdam !

il y a un paquet-paquet d'années, je fais Paris Bordeaux en ami 6, par la nationale (j'ai pas les ronds pour le péage)
entre Tour et Angoulême, je traverse mon n-ième rond-point, et je fais un 360°
un bon gros moment plus tard, je me pense : c'est marrant comme je connais cette route...
bilan : 200 bornes de rab...
j'interdis à quiconque de rire !
