Ancient Egyptian pyramids are best known as Old Kingdom funerary monuments, but the shape was common throughout the region’s history. A pyramidion is a stone that caps a pyramid structure and connects to solar beliefs. This small version, showing its owner worshipping Amun-Re-Harakhty, once topped his tomb superstructure. The god stands on the boat he uses to journey through day and night. Meryamunramessu invoked images from the funerary realm to gain assistance transitioning to his afterlife.
