Title: Fantastic Landscape

Date: probably 1760s

Medium: Oil on canvas

Dimensions: Irregular, 61 1/4 x 107 1/2 in. (155.6 x 273.1 cm)

Classification: Paintings

Credit Line: Rogers Fund, 1941

Gallery Label:

The three irregularly shaped imaginary views in this gallery come from a castle of Colloredo, near Udine, where they were installed in an eighteenth-century drawing room. Probably painted in the 1760s they are among Guardi's finest landscapes. He himself made changes in the format of all three paintings, the height of the present painting being increased. The touch is delicate, the handling broad, and the colors transparent.
