Pentelic Marble

From the Horti Maecenatiani, found in the area near the Auditorium in 1876.

Inventory # MC1426

This relief represents a temple enclosed in a sacred area which is surrounded by a high wall from which some drapes are hung. Some votive object and a large knotty tree outline the setting of the sacred space. This work is to be dated between the first century BC and the first century AD.
