Skyphos with Satyrs in the Getty Villa, July 2008
Wine Cup with Satyrs
Greek, made in Campania, Italy, 350-340 BC
Terracotta
Red-figured skyphos attributed to the Plouton Painter
Inventory # 84.AE.82
The two satyrs on this cup grasp the handles of an amphora, a vessel used for storing and transporting wine. White pigment enhances the details of the scene. The liberal use of added color and the abundance of ornamental patterns were hallmarks of vase painters working in southern Italy.
