There are four lifts for cars and two for people. In every carlift there was space for 2 cars.

Yes, during normal times many tourists are going trough this tunnel to get a classic "tourist view" at the skyline of Hamburg like in www.ipernity.com/doc/kiezkicker/4910612 or www.ipernity.com/doc/kiezkicker/22396151
At the beginning up to the middle of 20th centaury many, many people who are working at the harbour/port using this tunnel to switch from homes to their work.
At the moment the tunnel is in renovation so no cars are possible anymore, but it was cool to see how cars are transported down with elevators. :)
