Post Box Yarn Bombing

Post Box Yarn Bombing
Some of you may know that this year is our monarch's 70th year on the throne. There will be various events celebrating this over the next 6 or 7 months. I don't normally take much notice of this sort of thing but I spotted this decorated post box and couldn't resist taking a couple of photos. (See the PiP for a close up).

For those who have never heard of Yarn Bombing here is a link to explain: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarn_bombing

Have a good day and an enjoyable weekend. Thanks for looking :-)

Günter Klaus, Nouchetdu38, Ulrich John, Christian H. and 15 other people have particularly liked this photo

There was a spate of these in Shrewsbury during Covid restrictions, This one is very nice indeed, and very fancy too.

A new one on me, but then I have led a very sheltered life! The Wiki link provided an eye opener into a world I never new existed!

Yarn Bombing has been around for years Andy........... at first it was rebellious youth, but now the middle aged and elderly knitters are involved it's almost respectable now :-))

It's no good, Keith; I still had never heard of it until now!!! I asked my sister and my Mum and they hadn't heard of it either! Maybe my family is stuck in a time-warp, perhaps the 1920s? It would explain a lot!!
:o)
PS. Have read the thread with Eunice about setting new trends. I can't see myself doing the same here in Madrid!!

Ha, ha.................I don't think missing out of Yarn Bombing will have had an effect on your life Andy..!!

You should knit a nice coat for one of the trees in a park near you :-)))

I don't think so, Keith. Not sure I want the nice men in the white coats from Happy Acres paying me a visit!

It's very clever and yarn bombing is popular around here as well. Some very clever knitters!!
We've got lots planned in our village for June 4th.
Have a great weekend.

Thank you Rosa................as I was saying to Andy (above) it's becoming respectable now ;-))

There's nothing planned our street, I don't know of any in Havant yet. Not that I'd be going if there was :-)))

Have a great weekend yourself.

I had to go to Wikipedia to know what Yarn bombing was. Never seen it over here. We are behind the times it seems. This creation is very well designed and made!

Lovely images and some great work by the yarn bombers, Keith,
I still have a coin from our coronation street party, which was held in a narrow street on a breezy day, and you can imaging the results. ;-))

Thank you very much Roger.

I don't remember ever taking part in a street party, but I was involved in the Queen's Silver Jubilee review of the fleet onboard HMS Brighton..........back in the days when we had a fleet..!!

Haha, missed this the other day. Yarn bombing is a good expression for such things. I have mixed feelings about such great works of art on a pillar box but I must admit it gives them colour and character -at least at first. I have seen a few sorry states after a few months too. Well seen and captured here.

Da hat jemand viel Aufwand investiert. Aber das Ergebnis ist entzückend. Womöglich ist eine zweite Figur schon in Arbeit?

I'll check when I pass by that place next time..............it's quite possible as the Jubilee celebrations last nearly all year. Glad you like it.

There is nearly always some sort of decoration on these post boxes Güni.............glad you like this one.

I had no idea you were a retired postman. To me it looks like a hard job.........out in all weathers, carrying heavy bags, dodging vicious dogs etc :-))

It must be awful when a job you love changes like that............it must have affected your happiness terribly.

The post office here in England used to be the envy of the world............now it is run down, nearing bankruptcy, and totally inefficient. It's probably going to be sold to a company from the Middle East, which makes me really angry..!!

Bei uns ist es auch abwärts gegangen, als Die Post Aktionäre wurden, leider bleiben die kleinen Arbeiter nur mehr auf der Strecke,müssen aber mehr leisten, wie es normal ist lieber Keith :))
