Dalmation Pelican (+ PiP)

Dalmation Pelican (+ PiP)
Another image of one of the pelicans at WWT Arundel plus another in the PiP.

The pelicans have their flight feathers trimmed annually to prevent them from flying off. This seems cruel but this species of pelican has declined greatly over the past 100 years. The most likely reason is habitat loss due to human activities such as the drainage of wetlands and land development. These ones are part of conservation efforts taking part throughout Europe.

WHAT A BEAUTY!!!! Love the details and your portrait shot is FABULOUS!! That reminds me of a picture I got on our trip! Steve laughed so hard when I told him a group of pelicans is called a "flotilla of pelicans" and used the term whenever possible! :D Here's a link to my photo album on Google, as I haven't posted here: Flotilla of Pelicans at Fish Lake, Oregon

Thanks Janet.............you're very kind. That's a beautiful image in the link and having seen it, it's easy to see why the collective noun is a "flotilla".

Thank you for another visit to my older photos Güni.............it's always a pleasure for me when you like one of my photos.

I'm pleased you like this one...........when this was taken the pelicans were a relatively new addition to the wildlife centre, so seeing and photographing them was a bit of a novelty.

Have a good evening........and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Best wishes, Keith,
