On of the sturdiest fences of the week but nicely found and captured,

Like the toadstool Keith. I used to see a few fences made of sleepers but not any more for some reason. Well seen and captured here.

What a heavy-duty fence! In fact, it's too heavy to stand up...I wonder how many years before it falls over completely?! I do love it though, and I've never seen a fence made from railroad ties before! BTW, I hope you don't mind my little note on your picture...lol...I was all, "What the heck is he talking about? Those are railroad TIES...what's a SLEEPER?!

I found an interesting discussion on the origin of the word "sleeper" here: www.modelrailforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50938

The gist: it's unclear but some say sleepers lay on the railroad bed; others say the rows look like coffins aka sleepers. Interesting!! :D

Back to your picture! It's awesome, and the wooden mushroom is grand! I love the super textures all over the image too, lots to appreciate for sure.

And thank YOU for the lovely comments about my latest presentations. It's so nice of you to make individual comments on your favorite picks, and especially wonderful that you obviously really enjoy visiting my offerings! Makes my day!!

Interesting stuff Janet.........it's fascinating how some things get their names and how we call the same things different names.

This fence is along the route of an old railway line - now a walking route - which is where the sleepers came from.

Reusing old railway sleepers around houses becomes a big problem in Poland lately.
Some people find it fashionable (and pro eco!) but they do not realize how polluted this wooden things are...

Good find, nevertheless.

Enjoy your weekend, Keith!

Keith Burton club has replied to Marta Wojtkowska club
Yes, Marta.........most recycled sleeper and soaked in diesel oil and other waste from the trains. They are banned from use in some places in the UK, such as childrens play areas etc. These particular ones come from the old railway line that used to run along this route.

You can now buy "new" railway sleepers which has not been used on the railways for use in gardens etc.

Thanks for dropping by!

That's quite a sturdy fence - although it seems to be leaning! Maybe it's TOO sturdy (yes, railroad ties in the US, as Janet said). The odd "toadstool" is equally sturdy and also leaning. So, the whole scene appears drunk! I love it! ;-)

Thank you Diane........glad you like it.

It is leaning.............there's quite a steep slope behind the fence, so I guess that's why.
