This week in SSC:

"Dutch Angle" Your horizon line should be tilted so that it is no longer level.

Well, I angled left and I angled right. I angled all over the place this week and now my neck is sore. I'm not sure if I succeeded with this technique or not and I'm not sure if I really "get" what "Dutch Angle" is all about but it was fun. :)

...and for Sight and Sound:

Definitely 'Dutch Angle' I say. I'm impressed by your determination to try all the possibilities, Karen :-) Hope your neck has recovered :-) And, a clever musical choice for 'Sight and Sound'. Fun and joyful toe tapping music :-)

(And I remember to put it in "Sight and Sound" lol.)

Thanks so much, Roger. I had to go over to our neighborhood park for this one. Luckily I didn't have to fight too many kids for spot on the playground. :))

Very well done!
But why it is called "Dutch Angle"? Everything in the Netherlands is very flat! ;-))

Thank you! Here's Wiki's explanation:

"Dutch refers to a bastardisation of the word Deutsch, the German word for "German."[1] It is not related to the Dutch people or language.[1] It originated in the First World War, as Navy blockades made the import (and export) of movies impossible. The German movie scene was part of the expressionist movement, which used the Dutch angle extensively."

Oh, interesting! I've never heard that. For me "Dutch" means "from the Netherlands". :-)
By the way, there is a song from the Dutch Band "The Nits" => The Dutch Mountains. :-)

Yes, you're right, Dutch does mean that. I think the two words just got mixed up. It's a shame that it hasn't been corrected so that the German's can get credit for the technique and everyone can stop being so confused by the name. :))

I love the song, polytropos! One of my friends posted it in our group the other day too and I liked it right away: www.ipernity.com/doc/299737/49432556/in/group/362993

Hi Karen,

Certainly fun image!!
I have not tried, but I imagine very difficult to do without looking like the photographer made a mistake. I suppose great opportunity for some trickery here!!!
MMMMM An idea is forming!!
