I thought that bacon looks suspiciously healthy... =P

Quite a controversial image to illustrate the saying =D Never heard of it before, and I suppose it has made some sense in old times.

After checking the explanation given at Free Dictionary, I suddenly realised it also somewhat opposite the saying "drinking/burning a stone building". So, someone drinking too much (alcohol) or smoking too much will waste the price of a stone building. And at time when meat actually was something very expensive, it was money saving act to keep livestock like pigs.

And now after reading the page you referred to, with a thought, I realised it just the same as saying "saving one's ass".

So, one could also take a shot where Eeyore becomes squeezed into a piggy bank! =D
