Found a Nikkor 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 in the office the other day. I remember owning this lens, but if you'd asked I'd have said I'd given it away with my D70. Wrong.
Having rediscovered it, I mounted in on the D300, then went out this afternoon and used the lens for my Daily Flower Census. This result's certainly acceptable.
I bought the lens in 2000 or 2001; I'd broken the kit lens for the N90s and this was the replacement. It apparently never moved to the D70, and for most of the D300's life I've been using my 16-85 VR to fill the same slot in my lens collection. That's a better lens than this one; the question is whether there's anything I photograph where this is a better choice.
Perhaps at the ballpark? I'll be testing that theory this week....
