Interessant, ich hätte angenommen, dass man zu der Zeit nur Ringwälle aufgeschüttet und mit Palisaden bekrönt hätte. Woher nahm man damals auf dieser Insel die Steine für solch ein gewaltiges Mauerwerk? HWW!

im Alvar liegen die Kalksteinplatten offen oder sind nur mit einer dünnen Schicht Erde bedeckt. Das Baumaterial ist also massenweise vorhanden. Durch das Alvar ziehen sich kilometerlange Mauern aus kleinen Kalksteinplatten. Größere Plattenstücke wurden senkrecht aufgestellt und zum Teil mit Runen und Schlangenmotiven gestaltet.
