"The Horse Hospital" – Colonnade, Bloomsbury, London, England

The Horse Hospital is a Grade II listed not for profit, independent arts venue in central London, England, with a curatorial focus on counter-cultural histories, sub-cultures and outsider as well as emerging artists delivered through frequent events, underground film and artist’s moving image screenings, and exhibitions. It has also been used by various record labels, publishing houses including Soft Skull Press, Verso, Serpent’s Tail and Clear Cut Press. and journals such as Strange Attractor and Granta for special events, as well as a screening space for numerous film festivals including the Fashion in Film Festival, and London International Animation Festival amongst others. Built originally by James Burton in 1797 as stabling for cab drivers’ sick horses, the Horse Hospital is the only existing unspoilt example of a two-floor, purpose-built stable remaining for public access in London. The shell is constructed with London Stocks and red brick detail, whilst the interior features a mock cobbled herringbone pattern re-enforced concrete floor. Access to the both floors is by concrete moulded ramps. The upper floor ramp retains hardwood slats preventing the horses from slipping. Each floor has five cast iron pillars and several original iron tethering rings.

"Lucky George" – Hotel Russell, Russell Square, Bloomsbury, London, England

George is the bronze dragon who sits atop the 2nd floor stairs of the Hotel Russell. Fitzroy Doll, architect for both Hotel Russell and RMS Titanic, had two dragons moulded. One went to Hotel Russell; the other is today 2.5 miles beneath sea level in the Atlantic Ocean aboard the remains of RMS Titanic. It’s considered good luck to rub "Lucky George’s" head!
