Fort Kearny's Blacksmith

Fort Kearny was on the Oregon Trail. It acted as a rest stop for travellers. Without fortifications, it couldn't really defend them.

Brown v Board of Education
|
|
Linda Brown was told by Topeka Board of Education that she had to go to this school. Her father took the board to court. The result was that he integrated US schools.
Monroe Elementary closed in 1975.
Kansas Congressional Roof

I have come to the conclusion my efforts to see all the state capitols are jinxed. I made a special effort to fly to Topeka, and they're gutting the place.
I mean jeepers. All I wanted was a picture of the inside of the Kansas rotunda, but couldn't get it. Now I've got to come up with another dumb reason to go if I want to get the picture.
Incidentally, the is the roof the Kansas Congress meets under.

Constitution Hall
|
|
Kansas' second attempt at a constitution was written here. It was written in response to an anti-slavery constitution written in Topeka.
The rejection of both the Topeka and Lecompton constitutions by the US Senate was a contributory factor to the start of the US Civil War.
Supposed Kansas Capitol
|
|
This was supposed to be the site of the first Kansas State Capitol, but their Constitution was rejected (contributing to the American Civil War), and by the time it was sorted, they'd decided to move the capital to Topeka

I really don't understand why the "well to do" made these faux ruins. It seems like a bad waste of good money to me.
