This pub is just round the corner from Ironmonger Row Baths. No idea what the coat of arms represents. Yet another thing to find out...
Note the street sign is pre-1965 as it shows the now defunct Borough of Finsbury.
This is a historic street so I can't imagine it was ever renamed but the metal sign has been fixed over the top of an older painted one. I'm also wondering why the painted one was larger. Maybe it once read "To College Lane" which is a pedestrian only street just behind?
Both this and Helmet Row (next picture) were built on land belonging to the Ironmongers' Company . The names refer to the Ironmongers' coat of arms, which features a knight's helmet supported by two salamanders, or lizards
