Sintra III - Waiting their turn to do the tour
Horse-drawn carriages are available for hire between the town and the Serra. It is well worth trying this means of transport, for a most agreeable trip under shady trees to the "glorious paradise" of which Lord Byron spoke. The carriages start from and return to the large square in front of the National Palace of Sintra.

É Plínio o Moço quem escreve sobre o facto das éguas conceberem do vento “ Olissipo equarum e Favonio conceptu nobile”. A lenda é repetida por outros autores clássicos.

As éguas seriam fecundadas pelo Zéfiro, daí que os lusitanos sejam os "filhos do vento".

Vede além no alto cerro a cena que aparece
Todas as éguas ao Zéfiro voltadas
Estáticas sorvendo as auras delicadas
Basta aquilo, e acontece amiúde este portento,
Sem cônjuge nenhum, grávidas só do vento...
