The fishing line with hook. The bait was normally salted sardine brought from Portugal, or any other fish when cecessary. ( hand fishing only ).

Thank you Indira. This is the ancient line made of natural fibers like jute, flax, cotton, and hemp . In a day's work it is very hard on the skin of the hands and they used rubber rings around their palms to avoid the inevitable cuts because they were difficult to heal with the salt water on them every hour of every work day.
