At one time, the Lake District National Park authorities were so careful about not spoiling the appearance of the area that they even worried about red phone boxes. But now, they don't seem to care anymore, allowing the University of Cumbria to turn their stretch into an eyesore with their grossly out-of-keeping information board and ugly parking signs.

At least it's possible to park there (I've had to) when the ginormous pay and display car park opposite is full. I only used to go to the Lake District in early November, following half term week. Most of the year it's so hideously overcrowded that it's impossible to enjoy.
