Die Lachmöwe (Larus ridibundus) besiedelt weite Teile der nördlichen Paläarktis von Island und Irland bis Kamtschatka.Sie brüten in den Verlandungszonen größerer Gewässer. Die Art ist im nördlichen Mitteleuropa ein häufiger Brutvogel und verbringt auch den Winter in großer Zahl dort.
