5597 at Hornsby loco depot. It is using the original type of tender for this class, which was attached for a railfan trip. They were usually fitted with the turret tender used by the 53 cl and many 50 cl locomotives. In the evening it will work a freight to Chatswood and St Leonards.

The vehicle in front of the loco is freight guards van. Occasionaly I saw a van with the loco but mostly this wasn't done.

Steam Hornsby 65 007
For some years the NSWGR ran a Vintage Train and between runs the cars were stored at the Hornsby Electric Train Sheds. This meant that the locos assigned to the train, 1243 and 1709, were occasional visitors. This photo shows 1709 backing onto the turntable prior to taking the Vintage Train towards Sydney on the mainline. In May 2008 1243 is now a static exhibit at The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and 1709 is in operational condition at The Rail Transport Museum in Thirlmere south west of Sydney.

Steam Hornsby 65 005
For some years the NSWGR ran a Vintage Train and between runs the cars were stored at the Hornsby Electric Train Sheds. This meant that the locos assigned to the train, a 12 cl from approx 1880, 1243 and a 17 cl from approx 1890, 1709, were occasional visitors. This photo shows 1243 backing onto the turntable, with 1709 already turned, prior to taking the Vintage Train towards Sydney on the mainline. In May 2008 1243 is now a static exhibit at The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. The 12 cl is still active as a previously plinthed loco, 1210, has been restored to operating condition by the Australian Railway Historical Society, ACT Division. 1709 is in operational condition at The Rail Transport Museum in Thirlmere south west of Sydney.
