Named Rainbow Beach because of the various colours of the sand on the Hill at the back of the beach. The nearest 4wd hides a rocky outcrop which is underwater at high tide. The long queue of vehicles into the distance are day trippers going back to town before the tide closes the route and a few who will camp overnight are hurrying to get to their desired location.
