This is the C38 cl, a 4-6-2 designed locally in the late 30s with the first delivered in 1943. The first 5 were streamlined, see the 3801 shots in this group, the remainder like this one. These hauled the top passenger services in the areas where the track was heavy enough until displaced by diesel. They then did service on lesser passenger and on goods. When the last one was withdrawn, 3820, at the end of 1970 it hauled the Newcastle - Sydney Flyer the whole trip.
