In my country a duplex is a two floor apartment with an inner staircase. Usually (like mine) the two upper floors af a building.
When you say two units you mean for two different families or not?

Yes. The usual new house in this area has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a 2 car garage attached to the house, under the same roof line. Same goes for the duplexes (usually 2 or 3 bedrooms), with garage, sometimes for 1 car, or 2 cars.
