Advice needed: What Tree/Bush is This?

There's this tree or is it a bush growing in the yard, I'm thinking it might be a dogwood tree. It's only around 5 years old and I'm sure it's never flowered. Please see two notes. What do you think it is?

Do know it is not a Dogwood ... bark and leaves are all wrong for them. I have a University I could check in North Carolina, but don't know if that would help. Do you have a University or Agricultural Center with an online site?

Ok, thanks for your reply, Peggy. I tried matching a leaf from this tree with images on Google and closest similar was a dogwood leaf. That's a good idea to ask on a Uni or Agriculture website, and I've just remembered our local council has or had an arborist on their staff so will try them first.
