Rapeseed field

Rapeseed field
An image of a field of rapeseed flowers from a few years ago that I originally took in my "HDR" phase, which now looks a little wrong to my eye. I've reprocessed the middle frame of the the three exposures with modern Lightroom to get a more natural look. Sadly, I can't recreate the hum of the field full of industrious bees!

Update: I asked an AI to critique the image, and I'm interested in what people think of its assessment. I've documented it here: www.ipernity.com/blog/gavin.johnson/4746678?t=108320

I get you,... I have often felt that some HDR images posted onto sites looked a little 'overdone' on occasions.. particularly clouds,. with a well balanced single exposure I found excellent results can be achieved in 'Lightroom' and others,. / A very nice country scene here Gavin,..
.. and 'added to the 'Landscape' group' Thanks,.. Cheers - from Dj.

A wonderful rapeseed scene here reminding me of my own efforts on the Yorkshire coast. Many thanks for the AI link which is quite fascinating. ⭐ Very well done.

Your composition is spot on! Contrary to the AI's opinion I think the trees in the background add depth and the colour of the rapeseed is exactly as I remember such fields.
If I started niggling at all it would be about the (barely perceptible) slight chromatic aberration on top of the trees;-)

You did a really good job newly processing this photo!

Thank you Gudrun. Your niggle is quite right, though. It's not very obvious on my main monitor, but stands out much more on others. I've found the cause: in Lightroom I've been changing the colour space from 'Adobe' to 'Adaptive', which really improves colour and contrast, but leaves a pale halo around some objects, and that looks particularly unnatural around things like tree branches. In future I'll leave the colour space alone and be a little less heavy-handed on the contrast editing :-)

I agree with Gudrun. If you cropped the photo in order to adjust the 'mid' horizon either way, then you would probably lose the curve of the field. The eye is focussed on the field here, which is exactly what you wanted, and the tree positions add the slement of DOF.

Don't listen to AI. Rules are made to be broken.
