On the beach 1948

On the beach 1948
Posted for the Vintage Photos Theme Park's theme "On the beach".

Me apparently being a captivating beach conversationalist at Plage-Laval, Quebec.

Sweet Caps were the most popular cigarette in Canada at the time. They lasted till 2011 in Canada; American Sweet Caps were lost in the mists of time by then.

Nouchetdu38, Marco F. Delminho, kiiti, Sarah P. and 5 other people have particularly liked this photo

The old photos certainly take us into a different world and time.

I have another photo, of poor quality, of 1940s bathing costumes at the same beach. They certainly look retro.

Once upon the time, there was the word "pram" now probably one has to google it to find what it means!

"Pram" was being replaced by "baby carriage" here even when I was very young, Dinesh, but in Canada and the States we still dress children in pram suits in winter. So we still know the word but prefer its longer variant. Can't think why.

They were pretty common back then. Now everyone uses strollers.

I'm sure you're already spotting some excellent bins and bollards, John. You have that look on your face.

Already a glimmer of skepticism in that glance. The cigarette posters add the critical juxtaposition.

The doll/woman on the billboards is a bit perplexing. Maybe she's the doux caporal. But that's not a corporal's hat, is it?

Great beach photo, handsome lad, and quite a fancy pram--love the shiny bumpers.

Thanks, Rich. I had cool wheels then. Things have gone downhill since then.
