Ah, you've finally had some snow! We got a dusting this morning, to go with what is already piled on the ground, restoring it's pristine whiteness. Which, as Keith pointed out, you captured well enough that we can see the texture, the little shadows from the uneven surface.

I'd probably have given in to the temptation to reduce this to pure black and white, but that would have promoted form over texture and changed the whole ambiance, likely for the worse. And we couldn't compliment you on how well you gauged the exposure to provide the texture in the first place. Well done.

We've been having two days of snow followed by two mild days. The snow in the shot half melted, the temperature dropped and got 10 or 15 cm, then tomorrow and Saturday the forecast temperature is 8C.

I tried black and white, Bob, but the loss of the yellow light/reflector made, I thought, for a poorer picture. Pasting a b & w version over a colour version and clipping it to reveal the light didn't work, either.

I shot a bit dark to get the texture. Some was lost, however, once the picture was brightened up.

I hate to be commenting after Bob because he always says what I would say except he says it better ... :-)

He says things better than I could, too, Sarah. And they're perceptive. HIs fluency is greater than mine, too -- I think I've spent too great a part of my life writing about the results of statistical tests.
