tilting at windmills

Road Trippin'

Folder: on the road
I like driving cross-country, and usually drive long distances a couple of times a year to sell my glass... In my Smartie. :D People are always asking how I fit everything in my tiny toy car; here's what it looked like going to Tucson.

Somewhere in Texas. There were wind farms all along this stretch of highway; I didn't really have a lot of time to stop and explore (i'd stumbled across a music festival in Memphis the night before and used up pretty much all my play time for the trip ;) ), but the drive back will be on a slightly looser schedule...

...I've played a lot of tetris over the years. :D Contents settled a bit once we got going, and I probably could have fit another pair of shoes or some more books in there after all; on the other hand, it's always good to leave some room for shoppies. ;)

Smarties really are bigger on the inside... :D (the books fit in the space between the boxes and the door once it's been closed; and of course these aren't the only books I brought with me. ;) )

The most important bits are on the passenger seat: my beads (orange bag), my camera gear (backpack-type camera bag seatbelted in (with tripod and hiking sticks strapped to the side)), my backpack (with computer and other essentials). The spaces in front of and behind the passenger seat are also completely packed; the pile of stuff in the front seat came up just below the base of the window, leaving me with a clear view out the side (especially important given that the back was completely blocked).

All my beads - and there are a lot of them - fit into four roll-ups in this little orange backpack. :D

One of the two new bead rolls I made just before this trip. In the time since I made the first pair of roll-ups (which have two rows of pockets, facing inwards) my larger beads have been getting even longer, to the point where I have to arrange the contents very carefully to avoid the tops of the beads hitting (and potentially chipping the glass); i made the new pair with one row of pockets, but didn't have time to reorganize everything so most of the big pockets ended up with small beads... (The lining is a nice, soft flannel for extra protection for the glass; the horses are just for fun. :D )
