Arizona - Bisbee
Folder: Other West
Bisbee area of Arizona. Because I've visited there often, it's a separate album.
To insure that photos from the same trip are adjacent, photos are in date order with newest on the left.

A fairly elaborate marker and rest stop on what was once the pass on the west side of Bisbee for US 80. US 80 no longer exists, replaced with AZ 80 which runs through a tunnel beneath this point. See adjacent picture re the marker in the distance.

A marker next to the old US 80 (see adjacent picture). The marker proclaims this to be the Continental Divide (barely visible on the large picture), which it isn't.

The pool was apparently built with a separation between a shallow area and a much deeper diving area. The pool was built by the New Deal, it has been replaced by a newer pool more centrally located.

Diving platform over the deep end of the abandoned public pool. The pool was built by the New Deal, it has been replaced by a newer pool more centrally located. The pool beyond this pool is a separate water treatment facility operated by the city.

Abandoned Citroën 2 CV van. I often wonder how such things ended up in relatively remote place like Bisbee.

Eric, in the comments below, and a friend who owned one once both identified this as the Citroën Méhari . Per the Wikipedia link below (English, French link it is in the comments), it was used for off-road in general and also by both the French and Irish military. The name, méhari, comes from a camel of the same name that was used both in racing and in transport. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_M%C3%A9hari

A collection of abandoned vehicles on a lot in Bisbee, this is a Citroën Type H van, I've no idea what age. The only word on the van that I can make out is "Cheval", which is French for "horse".
Bisbee, AZ Renault Caravelle (2148)
|
|
|
Renault Caravelle, built by Renault for the U.S. market from 1958 to 1968. Roughly based on the Renault Dauphine, the early models had a rear engine with 40 HP (similar to a VW bug at that time.) The vehicle was originally named "Floride" but that name was not used in the U.S. due to fear that people would assume the car was made for Florida. For some odd reason I had a fascination with French cars when I was young, probably because Renault's were much smaller than U.S. cars and seemed more refined than VW's.

In Bisbee, a Renault Caravelle (see box), where once there was a Chevrolet (see picture linked to comments).
Bisbee, AZ Copper Man (2140)
|
|
|
Bisbee "Copper Man", which is somewhat of a misnomer since he's concrete with copper plating and since the official title is "Courthouse Plaza Miners’ Monument." As noted in a similar picture taken some years back, the artist was paid by the New Deal when he made the statue. The model for the statue was a local miner. The statue is often referred to as the 'virile copper miner' because the plaque (see link in comments) dedicates it to 'those virile men, the copper miners'
