Portland light rail, Old Town

Portland light rail leaving Skidmore Fountain in Oldtown. This is an airport trolley, which provided good service to and from the airport. A 2 hour transit pass ($2.05 in 2008) was enough to get from the airport to city center and then a bus to my hotel.

The friezes on the top of the building. They seemed particularly out-of-place considering that the building was named "Blackstone"

An apartment building facing a park -- the Egyptian themed figures (see adjacent) seem out-of-place, particularly for a building named 'Blackstone'.

The home of the Oregon Symphony. The red ball under the marquee was an inflatable ball that was part of an art project touring Portland in 2005 -- it was in that location just for that one day.

The older building on the left side of the picture was abandoned. It appeared that many of the condos were being built where there had been similar factories or warehouses. On the other side of buildings is the Williamette river (see other pictures in set)

Union Station Portland

The train nearest is the Amtrak Cascades that runs from Eugene, OR to Vancouver, BC. On the lower right you can see an Amtrak engine which was for either the Coast Starlight or the Empire Builder.

A good view of how much condo construction was occurring in the area. In the area adjacent to the station there were very many multi-story condo or apartment buildings under construction in April 2008
