Uists 2012
Folder: Holidays Scotland
We spent a week staying on North Uist at the Tranquil Sands holiday cottage. This set of photos was taken that week on North and South Uist, Berneray, Benbecula and the ferry, MV Lord of the Isles, between Lochboisdale and Oban. Took loads of photos, so its going to take me quite a while to populate this set!
Eilean Musdile Lighthouse
This lighthouse is located at the south west end of the Isle of Lismore. This shot was taken whilst on the Cal Mac MV Lord of the Isles, heading for a week in North Uist.
Beach at Paiblesgearraidh
Looking south-east from up on the dunes with a large storm (which kept us indoors for almost all of the following day!) approaching from the west. Even with the stormy skies, the white sands and turquoise water still stand out.
This beach was just down the road from the holiday cottage we were staying in.
More of this beach to come (with the sun was shining!).

Sanctuary sculpture
The Sanctuary sculpture is part of the Uist Sculpture Trail (Road Ends Project). This sculpture is located at Locheport on North Uist which is the starting point of the walk up the hill Eaval, which can be seen behind the sculpture.
Stepping stones
These stepping stones cross the outlet from Loch Obasaraigh to Loch Euphort which you need to cross to get to Eaval (seen in the background). While these stones were easy to cross on the way to the hill, on the walk back, after it had been raining, they were so slippery we ended up just wading across the river.
Way marker
A small cairn marking the trail up the east side of Eaval.
Teampull na Trionaid (Trinity Church), Cairinis
This church was first established in the early 1200s, originally serving as a monastery before becoming an important centre of learning. It has recently been undergoing some conservation work as will be seen more clearly in subsequent photos.
